design process

to begin with i have referanced a few robot designs and sketching out certain body parts that i would like to mix in with my own design. for purposes of originality i'm trying to make the robot not be too human looking with two arms and two legs. i plan to experiment with various pieces such as wheels, treads, weaponry being placed at certain parts etc.

this is a robot design from a very old game i remember playing but the actual robot looks amazing. its not too busy and has all the key elements without having two arms to animate. for my design i'm trying to use the two legs with no arms idea partly because this design works so well.

in this design i really like the bent legs look. simaler to the design of the previous future cop robot  i will definately have my robot legs simaler to this.  an overall basic design like this is easily manageable in maya. although texturing may be a problem.

for this robot i really like the feet and cockpit. the linear sharp edges as opposed to being all rounded off works very well. the colours are also effective perhaps my design will have a matte style non shiny two tone colour of grey black and one colour.

this is the robot i designed gathering aspects from robots that interested me plus my own sections that i thought up. i tried to not make the design too complex as too many ply's would most likely cause running problems should it be played on an iphone. Due to my game being a base assault style game the player will start in a red base against a blue base. thus the robot has a red trimming to indicate this.

i designed my ship to comete against. trimming it was difficult as was adding the right sort of weapons to it. I settled for miniguns because it gave me a chance to expand on the designs trimming.
