to begin with i have referanced a few robot designs and sketching out certain body parts that i would like to mix in with my own design. for purposes of originality i'm trying to make the robot not be too human looking with two arms and two legs. i plan to experiment with various pieces such as wheels, treads, weaponry being placed at certain parts etc.
this is a robot design from a very old game i remember playing but the actual robot looks amazing. its not too busy and has all the key elements without having two arms to animate. for my design i'm trying to use the two legs with no arms idea partly because this design works so well.
in this design i really like the bent legs look. simaler to the design of the previous future cop robot i will definately have my robot legs simaler to this. an overall basic design like this is easily manageable in maya. although texturing may be a problem.
for this robot i really like the feet and cockpit. the linear sharp edges as opposed to being all rounded off works very well. the colours are also effective perhaps my design will have a matte style non shiny two tone colour of grey black and one colour.
this is the robot i designed gathering aspects from robots that interested me plus my own sections that i thought up. i tried to not make the design too complex as too many ply's would most likely cause running problems should it be played on an iphone. Due to my game being a base assault style game the player will start in a red base against a blue base. thus the robot has a red trimming to indicate this.
i designed my ship to comete against. trimming it was difficult as was adding the right sort of weapons to it. I settled for miniguns because it gave me a chance to expand on the designs trimming.

research
when i was given this brief my first idea was to perhaps design some sort of 3d app because from what i had seen from previous students it was very much 2d design. Also i am aware that the iphone can support 3d to an extent as i have seen existing games from friends that support 3d graphics.
I was aware that the nazi zombies iphone game was a heavily 3d iphone game so at first this gave me good insentive to make a 3d iphone game in the first place. I wasn't sure on an average polygon count for the 3d models however. I either need to find a game that is superb with it's 3d or try and search up the specs for iphone when it comes to 3d graphics.
Robot rampage on iphone is a very simple idea. You take control of a giant robot and have to avoide obstacles by shooting them with a lazer beam. You control this lazer by moving you finger around the lazer will follow wherever your finger go's. It has a nice art style to it mixing a 3d depth feel whilst having all 2d objects. well chosen sound effects for the explosions etc but the actual game is rather repetative. Once you have completed the first stage The game doesnt really change which doesn't fare very well when it comes to replay value. The robot that you play as is ver "the day the earth stood still" inspired with a round circular head combined with a thin lit eye.
